How do I collect my DNA sample? We will send you out a sampling kit which will contain instructions on how to use the enclosed cheek swab and buffer solution. It's completely painless, as easy as rubbing the inside of your mouth and can be done in mere seconds at your leisure. No needles, No blood!
Can you accept any other cells apart from cheek cells? We have found that the extraction procedure is easiest and gives the highest quality DNA with cheek cells, and it doesn't hurt (that's good news)
Can I customize the Colour and Size of my GenePortrait? We want you to express your individuality as far as it can go, so using our selection module you can customize the size and colour scheme of your GenePortrait piece that truly represents you. We have over 30 different colour schemes to choose from and a range of sizes and frames. We really do spoil you.
Whats the Biggest Size I can get? Bigger is always better at DNA DX and we are always willing to create a majestic piece of art that defines your behemothic personality. What materials do you use to create the GenePortrait art piece? In the laboratory we use gold standard primers, enzymes and gels to process your DNA sample. For the art we use Ultra-high quality cotton canvas and a special type of printing technique called Giclée (zhee-clay). Giclée is used to replicate high quality fine art for collectors and connoisseurs of museum quality pieces due to its quality being on par with other techniques such as lithography, etching and silk-screen printing.br />
The inks we use are colour fast for more than 75 years and have been glossed for added UV protection, we also utilise non-sag framing techniques to ensure your DNA looks bold, beautiful and lasts for eternity.
Is each piece different? Each GenePortrait art piece is just that, a genetic signature, and because everyone's genetic make up is different, every art piece we create is a visual represents of this, and as such, each piece varies from one to the next and no two pieces are ever the same! So you can be assured that what you get is a unique representation of you that is never duplicated.
Can you make an art piece of a deceased relative? Yes of course. We would need between 10-20 strands of hair from the person and we would be able to make any GenePortrait portrait with any colour and size required. Please contact us at info@dna-dx.com if you would like to do this as we would be required to contact our lab in advance.
Can I order a Digital Image of my GenePortrait? Yes as an additional option in the ordering module you can receive a high resolution digital image of your DNA, this is perfect if you have your own framing options in mind, you would also save on shipping. Please note: there is No Discount if you order the digital image only.
Can I get a GenePortrait art piece for my favorite pet? Yes of course! Using the same swab technique you can take a sample from your favorite pet Cat, Dog, Horse or any living animal you like. It's a completely painless and it shows your love for your companion in a very unique way. Ordering for a Pet GenePortrait can be done using the Selection Module.
Can I give a GenePortrait art piece as a gift? Yes you can. We have special gift packs that contains the sampling kit and instructions that can be presented to a loved one, relative and even your boss! We guarantee they will love the concept. The procedure is the same, please order online using the selection module and the checkout as usual, but please contact us at info@dna-dx.com informing us that you want to give this sample as a gift, so that we can send out the special "gift pack".
Can I pay by Cash or Cheque? You can also pay directly by Cash or Cheque if you reside in the United Arab Emirates only. After you have chosen your Colour and Size of your art piece, please click on "Cash" or "Cheque" option on the "Payment Options" page, depending on what payment method you would prefer, and fill in your contact details on the following page. One of our lovely staff will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
How much does each GenePortrait cost? The cost of each art piece varies according to size and framing type. The Selection Module will add up the cost depending on your choices and give you a net total.
What are the shipping charges? We are proud to offer International shipping, the shipping charges depend on the Size of the picture, the Framing type and also Country you are residing in. During the order process, please state which Country you are ordering from and the selection module will calculate the cost accordingly. If you order a GenePortrait piece without a frame, it will be rolled up in a secure tube and delivery times will be less.
(Please note: We cannot assure that there will or will be excise and duty charges at your local customs office. Any duty fees are not covered in our shipping charges and will have to be covered by the customer)
How long will it take to receive my GenePortrait? It takes around 4-6 weeks to receive your masterpiece from the time we receive your sample. This varies according to the country you are ordering from.
Can I track my GenePortrait package? Yes, upon dispatching we will send you a tracking number and a link for your parcel that you can track online on our courier's website.
How do I know that my own DNA was used to create my GenePortrait piece? We are very proud of what we do and we take great care in ensuring that every art piece is authentic and verified at every stage of development, we employ the use of several sample-tracking systems to ensure that what you put up on your wall is you, and no one else.
Can any genetic information be obtained from the art piece? For our standard GenePortraits random segments of DNA are amplified, however for our Signature GenePortraits we have chosen to highlight some genes such as genes for Hair Colour, Eye Colour. If you would like some other genes highlighted please contact us at info@dna-dx.com and we will be in touch with your requirements. If you wish for a highly custom DNA Piece such as this we will also provide an interpretation sheet that will explain the specific bands to you, a great talking point at parties!
How do you ensure my Privacy and Security of my sample? Any personal information you send us is used primarily for shipping purposes, the sample kits we dispatch to you uses a coding system and the sample swabs that are sent to our lab do not have any names attached to them, only codes. Our scientists operate under stringent laboratory guidelines, and never receive any personal information. You can be assured any sensitive information is dealt with the strictest confidence and we never pass any information to any third parties.
What do you do with my DNA sample? Once our laboratory team processes your DNA sample and captures an image, it is then destroyed and is rendered unusable.
What do you do with my GenePortrait image? As mentioned before, your DNA sample is destroyed immediately after a digital image has been taken. This image is stored for three months and then deleted. We store the image so that we save you sampling and process times if you decide to place a future order. If you would like us to delete it before then please contact us at info@dna-dx.com and we would be glad to do so, with no hesitance from our side. Again, our standard GenePortrait art image does not contain any interpretable genetic information.
